Why he might be annoying:

    He built a motor powered machine, he called the ornithoper (1900).
    It was intended to fly by flapping its wings, like a bird.
    He designed other airplanes, which crashed and were abandoned.
    He so wanted man to fly that it became his obsession.
    His dream to build the first viable airplane crashed when the Wright Brothers flew an aircraft over Kitty Hawk (1903).
    After crossing the British channel, the British feared they were vulnerable to a French air attack.

Why he might not be annoying:

    He was the first to fly an aircraft over a large body of water.
    He created the first truly successful aircraft.
    His flight over the English Channel, took just over a half hour.
    He formed Blériot-Aéronautique, to build commercial aircraft.
    During World War I, his company built more than 5,600 aircraft for France.
