    In 1952, they authorized studios to delete onscreen credits for any writers who had not been cleared by Congress, as part of the industry's "blacklisting" of writers with alleged leftist leanings.

    They are a powerful force in both Hollywood and the business industry.
    Without writers, your favorite shows would be bleak.
