The Resume

    (1964- )
    Born in New Orleans, Louisiana
    Original line-up:
    Barbara Ann Hawkins
    Rosa Lee Hawkins
    Joan Marie Johnson
Recorded the singles 'Chapel of Love' (1964), 'People Say' (1964) and 'Iko Iko' (1965)

Why they might be annoying:

They were almost called Little Miss and the Muffets before naming themselves after a brand of paper cups instead.
They claimed the songwriting credit for 'Iko Iko,' leading to a lawsuit from Sugarboy Crawford, who said the song copied his earlier 'Jock-a-mo.' They eventually settled the suit by agreeing to pay Crawford 25% of the royalties.
Their hits dried up after 1965 due to a combination of a label switch and troubles with their manager.
Johnson quit the music biz after becoming a Jehovah's Witness.

Why they might not be annoying:

'Chapel of Love' was the only song by an American group to top the Billboard charts during the first six months of 1964.
Ellie Greenwich, who co-wrote and produced 'Chapel of Love,' said '[They] hold a special place in my heart. They were the shyest, sweetest and most cooperative group I had ever come across and working with them was a lot of fun.'
The Hawkins sisters had to relocate to Florida after their homes were flooded during Hurricane Katrina (2005).
They received the Pioneer Award from the Rhythm and Blues Foundation (2003) and were inducted into the New Orleans Music Hall of Fame (2007).
