Murderer

The Resume

    (October 25, 1879-April 15, 1929)
    Born in Hanover, Germany
Birth name is Friedrich Heinrich Karl 'Fritz' Haarmann
Nicknames included 'The Butcher of Hanover' and 'The Vampire of Hanover'
Charged with 27 murders, convicted and found guilty of 24 murders, sentenced to death (December, 1924)
    Executed by decapitation

Why he might be annoying:

    He was a mama's boy.
As a child, his favorite pastime was dressing in girls' clothes and playing with dolls.
He committed his first sexual offense with young boys at age 16, leading his father to attempt to have him committed.
His MO was luring young boys (usually vagrants or runaways) into his residence for a meal, and then, after lulling them into a false sense of security, ripping their throats out with his teeth.
He then cut up the bodies and sold the meat, disposing of the bones in the river. (He also sold their clothing as a side 'used clothing' business.)
He also admitted to living and feeding on the flesh of his victims, himself.
He was convicted of sexual assault and battery of a 13-year old boy in 1918, but his connections with the police prevented him from serving his sentence, enabling him to continue his killing spree unchecked.
Around 1919, he began enlisting the aid of a 20-year-old male prostitute, Hans Grans, whom he had sexual relations with and who subsidized his killing by selecting boys to bring to their residence.
He referred to his ripping out his victims' throats with his teeth as a 'love bite.'
He occasionally disrupted his murder trial by shouting at and insulting witnesses.
He claimed not to know how many boys he had murdered, but it has been estimated at close to 100.
He chose to be decapitated by the sword as execution, saying 'deliver me from this life which is torment - I will curse my father and go to my execution as if it were a wedding.'
His case resulted in a wave of hysteria towards the mentally ill and the gay community.

Why he might not be annoying:

He claimed that his father was abusive.
He was molested by one of his teachers when he was about eight.
He served in WWI (his Commanding Officer even called him 'a born soldier').
His case is a classic example of police negligence.
He was dominated in their relationship by Has Grans, who urged him to escalate his killings.
Grans walked off with only a 12-year sentence, after Fritz wrote a letter protesting his innocence of any complicity.
His body was donated to medical science.
He was inspiration for the child murderer, Hans Beckert, played by Peter Lorre, in Fritz Lang's masterful 'M' (1931).
