Why he might be annoying:

    Most of his novels take place in the near-future and deal with man's relationship with cybernetic and cyberspace technology.
    He recently moved away from the fictional dystopias that made him famous to more realistic writing.
    He wrote the screenplay for the film adaptation of his short story 'Johnny Mnemonic,' which became a huge flop.
    Despite dealing with computer-related themes, he never has a special relationship with computers.

Why he might not be annoying:

    He's the father of the cyberpunk movement, a subgenre of science fiction.
    His first novel 'Neuromancer' won a Nebula Award, a Hugo Award, and a Philip K. Dick Memorial Award.
    He and his friend Tom Maddox wrote two episodes for 'The X-Files.'
    He made a cameo appearance in the mini-series 'Wild Palms.'
    The Wachowski Brothers cite him as a core influence in 'The Matrix.'
