The Resume

    (August 31, 1921-July 30, 2013)
    Born in Ada, Oklahoma
    Clinical psychologist
Fighter pilot for the United States Marine Corps in the Second World War
Creator of the Keirsey Temperament Sorter (1978), an outgrowth of the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator and a variant on the Four Temperaments
Author of ‘Please Understand Me (1978)’ and ‘Please Understand Me II (1998)’

Why he might be annoying:

His slightly more complex model of the temperaments consists of Artisans, Guardians, Idealists, and Rationals.
His namesake website cites Hippocrates, Plato, and Socrates as the First Observers of Four Patterns of Human Behavior.
His views of mental illnesses as ‘social arrangements used to escape responsibility’ were based primarily on the use of prescription medication rather than what he called ‘corrective counseling.’
He viewed psychoactive medication as harmful to children with attention deficit hyperactive disorder.
He referred to administering medication to children with attention deficit disorder as ‘The Great ADD Hoax.’

Why he might not be annoying:

His middle name? West — plain, simple, uncomplicated West.
Following WWII, he worked as a counselor at a probation ranch for delinquent boys.
He would go on to specialize in family and partnership counseling.
He took the MBTI and simplified it into eight categories of three identical call letters (each with one introvert and one extrovert).
His blog remained active months after his death — in his name (his son, referring to him as ‘singular human: brilliant and flawed,’ put out his remaining material).
