Why they might be annoying:

Their song 'First' was used in commercials by Coors and Hyundai.
Their lyrics are often considered preachy.
Many critics feel their later albums are not as good as their debut.
Pitchfork described lead singer Willett as 'coming off like an embittered Taylor Hicks.'

Why they might not be annoying:

Their name was inspired by a trip Maust took to Budapest in 1997. (Maust used the name for his blog before the band started.)
    Maust designs their album covers.
NME called them 'the best new band in America today.' (2007)
Willett said about a backlash accusing the band of proselytizing, 'We were surprised because Nick Cave, Leonard Cohen, Bob Dylan, Johnny Cash -- so many of our favorite musicians approach music from a spiritual standpoint.'
