In Kenya, women are treated as second class citizens and she tries to be an inspiration to them.
She set a record of 11 miles, 696 yards in one hour (August 1999).
She held the Female marathon record of 2:20:43 (Berlin Marathon - September 1999).
She was selected #78 by Sports Illustrated for Women's Century's Greatest Sportswomen.
