The Resume

    (March 25, 1922-July 9, 2014)
Born in Great Neck, Long Island, New York
    Birth name was Eileen Otte
With her husband Jerry founded Ford Models (1946)
Represented Suzy Parker, Dovima, Wilhelmina Cooper, Jean Shrimpton, Ali MacGraw, Candice Bergen, Beverly Johnson, Lauren Hutton, Jerry Hall, Christine Brinkley, Cheryl Tiegs, Brooke Shields, Carol Alt, Cindy Crawford, Linda Evangelista, Christy Turlington, Elle MacPherson, Rachel Hunter and Naomi Campbell
Wrote 'Eileen Ford's Book of Model Beauty' (1968), 'Eileen Ford's A More Beautiful You in 21 Days' (1972) and 'Beauty Now and Forever: Secrets of Beauty After 35' (1977)

Why she might be annoying:

She was pampered as her parents' only daughter: 'My family believed I could do no wrong.... I got everything I wanted from my parents.'
She told one would-be model, 'You're 25? Well, the best you can do is go to Europe and look for a husband.'
She turned down Grace Kelly and Marisa Berenson.
She claimed to disapprove of children modeling, but signed eight-year-old Brooke Shields and then started a children's division.
John Casablancas of rival Elite Models said, 'She is a sour, nasty old lady with a lot of enemies.'
Former Ford Model Stephanie Cook wrote, 'She is imperious, difficult, demanding and fierce, a vengeful fire breather.'
When she insisted, 'I am not a hard to work for person,' her husband dryly replied, 'You're impossible.'

Why she might not be annoying:

She worked as a model while attending Barnard College, where she earned a degree in psychology.
She and Jerry were married for 64 years.
She transformed modeling from a mostly part-time, poorly-paid sideline into one of the world's most glamorous professions.
She invited models who had no place to stay in New York to live at her home.
Cheryl Tiegs defended her often demanding behavior by noting, 'There are too many beauties around to put up with girls acting up.'
Her home in New Jersey was destroyed in a fire (1993).
She said, 'I feel my standards of beauty have been given very strong backing by Botticelli and a few others.'
