Hockey Player

The Resume

    (June 12, 1912-December 31, 1993)
    Born in Bristol, Quebec, Canada
Center for the St. Louis Eagles (1934-35) and Boston Bruins (1935-47)
Named to the NHL First All-Star Team four times (1938,1941,1943-44)
Two time winner of the Hart Trophy as most valuable player (1941,1943)
Led the NHL in scoring (1941)
Career totals of 195 goals, 353 assists
Inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame (1968)

Why he might be annoying:

He was not discovered by NHL scouts until he was 21 and toured Europe with the Ottawa Shamrocks (1933).
He missed large hunks of several seasons due to injuries.
He was just two points away from breaking the single-season scoring record with six weeks left to play when he suffered a separated shoulder that ended his season (1944).

Why he might not be annoying:

When he retired, he held the NHL career records for assists and total points.
Before the shoulder injury cut short his 1943-44 season, he was on pace to become the first player to score 100 points in a season, a quarter of a century before Phil Esposito accomplished the feat.
The 1.97 points per game that he scored in 1943-44 remained a record until Wayne Gretzky's 1980-81 season.
He brought junior ice hockey back to Canada's capital as a founder and part-owner of the Ottawa '67s.
