    L. Frank Baum used to run a store here that went bankrupt, and worked as an editor for its failed newspaper, The Aberdeen Pioneer.
    It has been called 'The Town in the Frog Pond' due to its unusual geography and floods in the early 1880s until it had its own working water supply.
    It was claimed as a disaster area after a rain flooded its streets and damaged a lot of homes in early May (2007).
