Why he might be annoying:

He believed that everything was made of water and also full of gods (although there is debate as to what these statements mean).
He predicted a good year for olives and purchased all of the olive presses in the surrounding area, thereby making a killing when anyone wanted to get their olives pressed.
Very little is known about him and none of his writings have survived.

Why he might not be annoying:

He was a talented mathematician and astronomer who predicted an eclipse.
He is credited with being the first Greek philosopher.
