    Born in Nor Nakhichevan, Rostov-on-Don, Russian Federation
    Studied at Moscow School of Arts (1897-1904)
    Painted ‘Makravank’, ‘Aragats’ (both 1902), ‘Buffalo. Sevan’, ‘Evening in the Garden’, ‘In the Armenian Village’ (last 3 in 1903), ‘Lotus’, (1911), ‘Armenia’ (1923), and ‘Old Yerevan’ (1928)
    Died in Yerevan, Armenia

Why he might be annoying:

    His last name is an anagram of ‘say ran’.
    He suffered from depression after witnessing refugees fleeing the Armenian Genocide dying right in front of him.
    Most of the work he painted in Paris from 1926 to 1928 got burned in a fire on a boat he used to return to the Soviet Union.

Why he might not be annoying:

    His paintings were highly popular in Russia as well as Armenia.
    He was influenced by Henri Matisse and Paul Gauguin.
    In Echmiadzin, he helped refugees fleeing the Armenian Genocide (1915).
    He was subject to Soviet restrictions that hampered his creativity.
    He is featured in the obverse side of 20,000 Armenian dram banknotes.
    His descendants have inherited his creativity.
