The Resume

    (November 30, 1508-August 19, 1580)
    Born in Padua, Italy
Birth name was Andrea di Pietro della Gondola
Known for his villas and palaces
Style based on classical Roman architecture
Wrote 'The Four Books of Architecture' (1580)

Why he might be annoying:

He ran away from an apprenticeship as a stonecutter (1524).
Some later critics suggested that since his style was inspired by 'pagan' temples, it was inappropriate for Christian churches.
'The New Yorker' wrote that his villas for upwardly mobile Venetian merchants made him 'the patron saint of every McMansion that has ever cluttered the American landscape.'

Why he might not be annoying:

His villas in Veneto in Northern Italy were declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Although his buildings were confined to a small region of Italy, his style was widely adopted throughout Europe and North America.
Thomas Jefferson, who designed Monticello and the University of Virginia in Palladian style, referred to his 'Four Books of Architecture' as 'the Bible.'
