    Paintings include 'Avenue of Chestnut Trees Near La Celle-Saint-Cloud' (1865), 'Early Snow at Louveciennes' (1871), 'Footbridge at Argenteuil' (1872), 'Among the Vines, Louveciennes' (1874), 'Regatta at Hampton Court' (1874), 'Flood at Port Marly' (1876) and 'Small Meadows in Spring' (1881)

Why he might be annoying:

    He lived off an allowance from his father. (Until his father's silk business went under, after which he lived in poverty.)
    He and Marie Lescouezec had two children three decades before they married.
    His application for French citizenship was rejected.
    His 'Lane of Poplars at Moret' has been stolen from the Musee des Beaux-Arts in Nice three times, once being recovered in the city sewers.

Why he might not be annoying:

    Renoir called him 'a delightful human being.'
    He was the purest landscape artist among the Impressionists, with only a dozen portraits and genre paintings among his 900 works.
    Art historian Kenneth Clark called his paintings of the upper Thames 'a perfect moment of Impressionism.'
