He was initially placed on waivers upon making his debut with the Sabres.
He angered many Quebecers when he elected to play for the United States in international competition, despite his Canadian upbringing.
Despite being a rotating captain for the Sabres, he didn't get it on a permanent basis until four years later.
He is frequently addressed as Jason 'The Mayor of Pominville' by Sabres broadcaster Rick Jeanneret.
He has been accused of being a soft player by hockey pundits.
Why he might not be annoying
He was born to a Canadian father and an American mother, who met and settled in the Montreal area at the time of his birth.
He defied the odds and made the Sabres roster full-time in his second season with the team.
He scored the first ever shorthanded overtime clinching goal in an elimination game (2006).
He played in 335 consecutive games, prior to having his streak ended by a concussion.
He was a point-per-game player during the 2007-08 season, recording 80 points in 82 games.
