The Resume

    (December 12, 1935-September 21, 2021)
Born in Pago Pago, American Samoa
    Birth name was Tausau Ta'a
Portrayed Detective Ben Kokua on Hawaii Five-O (1972-74) and Mamo Kahike on the 'Hawaii Five-O' reboot (2011-18)
Appeared in the films ‘White Fang 2’ (1994) and ‘Summer of the Eagle’ (2009)

Why he might be annoying:

During his freshman year in high school, he changed his first name to Alvin, then a year later adopted his stepfather’s last name.
Before being cast as Det. Kokua, he had appeared as different characters in five ‘Hawaii Five-O’ episodes.
He was frequently cast as Mexicans and American Indians: ‘I’m a generic minority person.’
Even with the specification ‘actor’ included, a Google search for his image returns a lot of pictures of basketball player Al Harrington.

Why he might not be annoying:

He was the first high school football All-American from Hawaii.
To pay his college tuition, he worked as a Polynesian dancer, which resulted in his being a contestant on To Tell the Truth.
Until his acting career took off, he worked as a high school history teacher and a professor at the University of Hawaii.
He headlined a long-running revue at Waikiki, in a showroom named for him.
He said, ‘Me playing a Haida chief isn’t as much of a stretch as Kevin Costner playing an English Robin Hood.’
