Catcher for the Kansas City Royals (1990-95), New York Mets (1996), Oakland Athletics (1997), San Francisco Giants (1998-99), Colorado Rockies (2000-01), Kansas City Royals (2001-03), Arizona Diamondbacks (2004) and the Los Angeles Dodgers (2004)

He was a journeyman player.
With exception of the San Diego Padres, he played for every team in the National League West.
He spent the bulk of his career on awful teams.
His middle name is Danem.
He did not make his first playoff appearance until his 15th and final season (2004).

He caught Bret Saberhagen's no-hitter during his first stint with the Royals (1991).
He was considered a valuable mentor to young pitching prospects.
He voluntarily pitched in an extra innings game after the Rockies were out of pitchers.
He was the first position player in 32 years to be credited with a pitcher's victory (2000).
Following his retirement, he wrote the book 'The Art of Catching', which talks about his experiences in the majors.
