Why he might be annoying:

The girls in his ‘Our Gang' comedies usually played supporting roles only.
He criticized Mabel Normand for her foul language and heavy drinking.
In the 1930's, he considered going into co-production with Benito Mussolini's state owned studios.
He handed over his studio to his incompetent son in the 1950's, who promptly bankrupted it and forced his father out of retirement.
He angered many in the early 1980's when his studio began colorizing classics such as ‘It's a Wonderful Life (1946).'

Why he might not be annoying:

He allegedly first became interested in comedy as a child when he heard Mark Twain read.
He had surpassed Mack Sennett as the top producer of comedy by the 1930's.
Though some later found the black characters in ‘Our Gang' stereotypical, others praised the integrated cast.
He adapted easily to sound in the late 1920's and to color and television in the 1940's.
He was still working as a television producer in the 1980's.
He attended the 1992 Academy Awards at age 100.
