The Resume

    (December 1, 1947-June 17, 2010)
Born in Liverpool, England, United Kingdom
    Rugby union player
Member of the British Lions international team (1972-76)
Winner on the BBC 'Superstars' program (1980)
Also excelled at rowing, sailing and triathlons

Why he might be annoying:

He was nicknamed 'rugby's first hippie' for his long hair and fondness for wearing sandals.
After he dressed casually for a reception during the Lions' tour of South Africa (1974), manager Alun Thomas ordered him to wear the team blazer, grey trousers and a tie at the next official function; he showed up wearing just those three items, with no shirt, no socks and no shoes.
After accepting sponsorship deals from two different shoe companies, he wore a different shoe on each foot.
He wore a t-shirt declaring, 'I'm so perfect it scares me.'

Why he might not be annoying:

He graduated from the London School of Economics and worked as an accountant, no doubt helping to dispel the profession's stereotype of being drab and predictable.
He was a fluent linguist who worked as a rugby commentator for French television.
He raised money for the charities the Sport Aid Foundation, the Bristol Sporting Association for the Disabled, the Aston Charity Trust for the Homeless and the Prostate Cancer Charity.
Rugby Players' Association executive Damian Hopley said, 'Andy was a colossus, both as an athlete and a human being.'
