Judge

The Resume

    (April 5, 1937-November 13, 2023)
Born in New York City, New York
Older sister of President Donald Trump
Judge of the United States District Court for New Jersey (1983-99)
Judge of the United States Court of Appeals for the Third District (1999-2019)
Her niece, Mary L. Trump, released secretly taped conversations in which she criticized her brother (August, 2020)
Sample comments: ‘All he wants to do is appeal to his base. He has no principles. None. None.’ and ‘It's the phoniness of it all. It's the phoniness and this cruelty. Donald is cruel’

Why she might be annoying:

She claimed to have done Donald’s homework for him. (And that Donald hired someone to take the SATs for him.)
Donald asked his lawyer, Roy Cohn, to lobby the Reagan White House to get her appointed to the District Court.
She got so irritated at Donald reminding her of his assistance that she told him ‘I will wipe you out’ if he mentioned it again.
She and her siblings reportedly received money from their father that was funneled through one of his companies to avoid paying the federal gift tax.
A judicial council of the Second Circuit Appeals Court began investigating her for potential judicial misconduct over the tax allegations, but ended the inquiry without any conclusion when she retired ten days later (February 11, 2019).
    She was a chain smoker.

Why she might not be annoying:

She deliberately stayed out of the family business to avoid becoming rivals with her brother: ‘I knew better even as a child than to even attempt to compete with Donald.’
After spending twelve years raising a family, she returned to college to earn a law degree.
New Jersey Governor Tom Kean, who joined Cohn in urging President Reagan to appoint her to the bench, said he had no idea she was Donald Trump’s sister when he recommended her.
A New York Times profile noted that she ‘has won praise for her industry, intelligence, and outspokenness.’
Demonstrating bipartisan appeal, she was nominated to the District Court by Bill Clinton and confirmed unanimously by the Senate.
She urged her brother to stop using Twitter.
She criticized the Trump administration’s policy of separating the children of illegal immigrants from their parents.
