    Born in Missouri
    Plaintiff in the case Gaines v. Canada
    Denied admission to the University of Missouri Law School on the basis of race
    Missouri would pay tuition of black students to attend out-of-state schools
    U.S. Supreme Court ruled 6-2 that the University admit Gaines or pay his tuition to an equal institution within state borders (December 12, 1938)

    He was a member of a fraternity.
    He disappeared from his Chicago frat house, destined to buy stamps.
    Because he went missing, he never got the chance to attend law school.

Why he might not be annoying:

    He was high school valedictorian.
    He graduated with honors from Lincoln University.
    His court case is called one of the most important in dismantling American racial segregation.
    Sy Woodson Canada, the University of Missouri's registrar, admitted in a 1978 interview that he was ordered to deny Gaines' entrance to law school solely because he was African-American.
    In 2006, he was given an honorary law degree and named an honorary member of the Missouri Bar.
    His whereabouts remain unknown.
