    He divorced 1948 Olympic silver medalist diver Zo Ann Olsen.
    He set a record for grounding into double plays (32) in the majors prior to Jim Rice breaking it with 36 in the 1984 season.
    His three children (Jon, Jan and Jay) have three letters and they all start with the letter 'J.'
    He never appeared in any game of the 1951 World Series.
    He retired the first time after the 1959 season because was afraid to fly as MLB teams came to the West Coast.
