    Capital of Minnesota
It was named after a Biblical cut throat.
It is dwarfed in size by its immediate neighboring city, Minneapolis.
It originally had the less-than-flattering name 'Pig's Eye Landing' until it was changed by a priest (1841).

Its population goes up and down.
After the Civil War its railways helped earn it its reputation as the gateway to the Northwest.
It is the birthplace of F. Scott Fitzgerald and Charles Schulz.
It has an extensive skyway system where pedestrians can walk from one building to another without going outside.
Its downtown area is 10 miles away from Minneapolis.
It is on the Mississippi River.
It has a reputation of being progressive.
