Why she might be annoying:

    A leg injury kept her from competiting in the 1982 World Championships.
    She never won a World championship medal.
    She finished at 21st place in her only appearance in downhill in her Olympic debut.
    Her performances in Giant Slalom and Super-G in her last Olympics appearance were a disappointment.

Why she might not be annoying:

    She was the first alpine ski racer from the U.S. since Barbara Cochran to win Olympic gold as her victory ended a 12 year gold medal drought.
    She, along with Christin Cooper, Phil Mahre, Bill Johnson and Steve Mahre were the five alpine skiers from the Pacific Northwest to bring home medals from the 1984 Olympics.
    She donates her time to numerous humanitarian causes.
    A run and a high-speed quad chairlift are named in her honor.
    She holds a degree in History from the University of New Mexico.
    She has been involved in training young skiers.
