Chef

The Resume

    (October 15, 1969- )
Born in Yamanashi, Yamanashi Prefecture, Japan
Iron Chef Italian (‘Prince of Pasta,’ 1997-99)
Owner of the Ristorante Massa (Ebisu suburb of Tokyo)

Why he might be annoying:

While he was aware of the series’ existence, he actually had little to do with the show within the timespan of his storyline.
He wasn’t even that frequent a competitor.
He was often accompanied by a live string orchestra for his appearances.
He was the only Iron Chef to lose his opening battle — ironically, with a pasta theme. (It did not air on the Food Network.)
Among the definitive Iron Chefs, only Masaharu Morimoto joined the Iron Chef series later than he did.

Why he might not be annoying:

He is the youngest of the definitive Iron Chefs.
To be fair, he lost his opening battle to an opponent who also specialized in Italian cuisine.
He wears the colors of the Italian flag on his uniform (shown horizontally on his hat).
Having mastered all of the key aspects of the restaurant in two years, he would become the head chef of Enoteca Pinchiorri in Florence.
He assisted Iron Chef French in a lecture on salmon preparation at the Culinary Institute of America (2000).
