Why Sesame Street might be annoying
Elmo rose to the top of the muppet food chain.
It is accused of focusing more on marketing characters than educating.
Producers of an African version of 'Sesame Street' added an HIV muppet to address the growing number of people with the virus (How do muppets exchange fluids?).
They allow celebrities like Robin Williams to make appearances on the show.
They are sometimes overly sensitive to children, like removing a black muppet because it was a muppet that was always in detention.
They changed the original theme song.
Some argue that it gives children a short attention span.
They never really explained the relationship between Bert and Ernie.
They opened an amusement park to suck more money out of the pockets of parents.
The producers ended a long-running gag in which Big Bird was the only character to see Snuffleupagus the Elephant as they felt adults not believing children would discourage them from reporting horrible acts like child abuse (1985).
Why Sesame Street might not be annoying
It originally was designed to help non-English speaking children formulate English sentences.
It holds the world record for 'Most Popular Children's Educational Program' with the show airing in over 180 countries.
When Will Lee died, they allowed his character Mr. Hooper to die. This was done to help children deal with death.
It featured Jim Henson and Frank Oz, arguably two of the greatest puppeteers the world has ever seen.
It has won numerous Daytime Emmies.
It is a cornerstone in educational programming which is copied by many other educational television shows.
It taught children how to learn in humorous, fun ways.
