He was a switch hitter.
His record with the Padres was 148-175 in two seasons.
His tenure with the Phillies was plagued with inconsistency.

Some baseball pundits feel that his aggressive style of managing causes many of his players to tune him out after a couple years.

He was a member of the Phillies team that won the first World Series title in franchise history (1980).
He was excellent defensive shortstop in his prime years.
He set a National League record for most career games played by a shortstop at the time of his retirement.
He earned NL Manager of the Year honors for taking a team who finished last place in the NL East to second (2001).
He is the uncle of Nick Johnson, the first baseman for the Washington Nationals.
