Premise: A former Pittsburgh Steelers football player returns to his hometown in Arkansas to coach high school football team while juggling everyday life with friends and neighbors
Why Evening Shade might be annoying
The premise is somewhat similar to 'Coach.'
Holbrook's character from 'Designing Women' was killed off so that he could become a main cast member in this series.
The high school football team depicted in the series had a long losing streak prior to Wood's arrival.
Ponder always ends the episode with the words '...in a place called Evening Shade.'
Reynolds often clashed with CBS executives over creative control for the show.
Why Evening Shade might not be annoying
The theme of the show was the appeal of small-town life.
Bobby Goldsboro wrote and performed a theme song for the show's third and final season.
The ratings shot up from number 49 to number 15 on the yearly Nielsen television rankings after CBS moved the series airtime from Fridays to Mondays.
The show won Reynolds a Primetime Emmy Award for Lead Actor in a Comedy Series (1991).
Actress Hilary Swank was a guest on the program.
