The Resume

Why The Goldbergs (ABC series) might be annoying:

It shares its name with a 1940's TV show.
It is usually set in '1980 something', often merging key events in the 80's together.
The show's creator Adam F. Goldberg loosely based the characters on his own family.
Some TV critics found the show came off as being 'loud and obnoxious' for television.
It was initially intended to broadcast on FOX, but moved to ABC after Adam's other project 'Breaking In' was cancelled.
Erica Goldberg is not a real person, as Adam was forced by the network to change his brother Eric's character into a girl in order to get more storyline ideas for the show.
Jeff Garlin was fired from the show midway through the ninth season for unprofessional conduct on set
In order to keep continuity til the end of the season, the show used both CGI technology and outtakes of Jeff from previous scenes to give the allusion his character was still around, before phasing him out with an off-screen death at the start of the tenth season.
The show’s later seasons declined in quality following Adam F. Goldberg‘s departure from the show.
The show drew criticism in the show’s later seasons for the characters being selfish, ignorant and mean-spirited to others, while the storylines strayed from being about the real family to outright fictionalized.

Why The Goldbergs (ABC series) might not be annoying:

It is loosely based on Adam's childhood experiences.
It received positive reviews from viewers.
Lainey went from being a recurring character to a main one in the third season.
It was voted one of TV Guide's 'Top 20 Shows of the Year' (2013).
It's been described as being a cross between 'Modern Family' and 'A Christmas Story.'
They did a heartfelt tribute to George Segal following his death midway through the show’s eighth season.
