    (March 2, 1928-July 22, 1982)
    Born in Hollywood, California
Birth name was Barbara Jean Bly
Acted in 'Hot Summer Nights,' 'House of Numbers,' and 'Party Girl'
She married and divorced three times.
She was a poor man's Marilyn Monroe.
Her career never moved beyond the B-movie circuit (she only made three films).
She lost out on the lead role opposite Elvis Presley in 'Jailhouse Rock' (which she was originally slated to do) to Judy Tyler.
She attempted suicide with an overdose of sleeping pills after her second divorce; her career tanked soon after (1959).
She is confused with the Broadway actress of the same name.
She was stricken with polio at 25, and was told that she would never walk again.
She miraculously recovered after months of treatment, although she would deal with the complications for the rest of her life.
Her immune system was so weakened that she died after a case of pneumonia at the age of 54.
She always credited her turning to the Bible and spirituality as essential parts of her recovery.
She was seen as MGM's answer to Marilyn Monroe, but she was actually groomed as a successor to the self-destructive Barbara Payton (and she caused infinitely less trouble).
Her career's lack of traction seemed less a matter of not having talent than a matter of phenomenally bad timing.
