    Escaped after seven years (March 1, 1980)

    Died in a motorcycle accident

Why he might be annoying:

    He began drinking alcohol and smoking marijuana before reaching his teens.
    After being reunited with his family, he had trouble adjusting to his parents' discipline.
    At the time of his death, he was not wearing a helmet and his license had been suspended for the third time.

Why he might not be annoying:

    He was repeatedly abused sexually by Parnell.
    He deliberately screwed up when Parnell tried to get him to help abduct another kid.
    After Parnell kidnapped five-year-old Tim White, he escaped with White to keep White from suffering the same abuse.
    White was one of the pallbearers at his funeral.
    White's hometown of Ukiah, California, honored him with a statue depicting Stayner carrying White while escaping captivity.
    'I Know My First Name Is Steven' screenwriter J. P. Miller said, 'He didn't complain. He didn't whine about lousy breaks. He was just a great kid with a good heart.'
