Why he might be annoying:

His career was plagued by injuries and inconsistency.
He hired Scott Boras as an agent, who asked for an inflated salary demand from the Yankees.
He declined a request from the Yankees to work with a pitching instructor citing he was burnt out from pitching the previous season.
Due to his financial issues, he was forced to move back in with his parents at age 40.
He dislocated his shoulder and labrum throwing a haymaker at a man who attacked his brother in a fistfight (1993).

Why he might not be annoying:

He was named after Brian Piccolo.
He was considered one of the best high school prospects in the country by baseball pundits prior to his draft selection.
George Steinbrenner thought highly enough of him to publicly state that the Yankees front office would be shot if they allowed him to leave as a free agent.
He worked blue collar jobs following his retirement as a baseball player.
He built his parents a house with the money he received from his initial signing bonus from the Yankees.
He has a street named after him in his hometown of Beaufort, NC.
