Biblical Characters

The Resume

    Celestial beings
Mentioned often throughout the Old Testament and once in Revelation
Main duty is to hold up the throne and chariot of God
Ranked second in the Christian hierarchy of angels
    Associated with the color blue

Why they might be annoying:

They guard the entrance of the Garden of Eden to keep humans from returning.
It is unclear if they support God’s throne and chariot or if they are literally God's throne and chariot.
The prophet Ezekiel eerily described them as having four faces (human, lion, ox and eagle), calves’ feet, four arms and four wings covered with eyes.
Yet by Renaissance times artists were depicting them as adorable, chubby babies.
They lent their name to a medical condition ‘cherubism’ which causes the lower part of the skull to swell.

Why they might not be annoying:

Their name means ‘blessing’ in Hebrew.
Their prototype was a human headed and winged Babylonian bull.
They are a popular and beloved subject in Christian art.
There are two solid gold cherubim on the lid of the Ark of the Covenant.
Although subordinate in rank to Seraphim, they are far better known.
