The Resume

    (May 19, 1906-February 1, 1991)
    Born in Dundee, United Kingdom
    John James MacDonald
Head of the original Disney Sound Effects department
Voice of Mickey Mouse, from 1948 to 1977
Original voice of the title character in the 'Humphrey the Bear' cartoons
Original voice actor for Chip of the 'Chip and Dale' cartoons
Voice of Jaq and Gus/Bruno in 'Cinderella' (1950)
Also provided voice work for 'Alice in Wonderland,' ' Lady and the Tramp,' 'Sword in the Stone,' and 'Bedknobs and Broomsticks'
Provided sound effects for '20,000 Leagues Under the Sea,' 'Dumbo,' 'Peter Pan,' 'The Rescuers,' 'Winnie the Pooh and the Honey Tree,' and 'Sleeping Beauty'

Why he might be annoying:

He is the oldest person to ever take on the role of Mickey Mouse.
He inherited the job after it became clear that Walt Disney had become too hoarse from smoking cigarettes.
He summed up his getting the job as follows: 'I was on the stage here and a girl called me and said, can you come up? Walt wants to see you ... I went up and he said, I can't do it anymore. I'm just too busy. So, he asked me if I could do a Mickey voice and I tried it and he said, Yeah, that sounds pretty good.'
He liked to invent bizarre Rube Goldberg-like contraptions from scratch to achieve random sound effects for movies (e.g. spider webs shimmering, bumblebees washing up for supper).
Xavier Atencio, a Disney animator, recalled: 'If he couldn’t get a particular sound he wanted from one of those gizmos, Jimmy would do it with his mouth.'

Why he might not be annoying:

Disney Legends called him a 'one-man sound effects wizard.'
He immigrated to the US from Scotland at only a month old.
He had a cameo in 'Fantasia' as a silhouetted percussionist.
He would later assist 'Fantasia' conductor Irwin Kostal in the digital 1982 re-recording of the film.
He was a drummer, both before and during his Disney years.
He also played drums in the Firehouse Five Plus Two jazz band, on and off during its inception (it disbanded in the late 70s).
He was playing percussion for the Dollar Steamship Lines when the band was called to the Disney Studios to record for a Mickey Mouse short (he stayed on to work with the sound effects department).
One of his earliest voice work jobs was the yodeling for the dwarfs, as well as the various sounds for the mute Dopey (hiccups, sobbing, etc.) in 'Snow White.'
He created and assembled one of the largest and most impressive sound effects libraries in movie history.
He created an estimated 28,000 sound effects for 139 feature films and 335 cartoon shorts during his 48-year career with Disney.
