Why he might be annoying:

He was the third and least known astronaut on the Apollo 11 moon landing mission.
He shares his name with an Irish nationalist.
When Armstrong was figuring out what he wanted to say when he landed on the moon, Collins supposedly suggested, 'If you had any balls, you'd say 'Oh, my God, what is that thing?' then scream and cut off your mic.'

Why he might not be annoying:

He was an experimental test pilot for the Air Force.
He did not mind that his comrades walked on the moon and he had to sit by himself in the command module.
At one point during Apollo 11, he was two thousand miles away from his fellow astronauts and over two hundred thousand miles away from the rest of the world.
He, with the two other Apollo 11 astronauts, has a Hollywood Walk of Fame star.
His autobiography 'Walking the Fire' is considered the best astronaut autobiography.
He had a wry sense of humor.
He did not take himself that seriously.
