Why Without a Trace might be annoying
CBS picked up the series in order to capitalize on its 'crime drama' lineup made successful by the 'CSI' franchise.
Many of the storylines are dark and violent in tone.
Often times, the missing person is discovered to be dead.
CBS decided to switch its timeslot from 10 PM on Thursdays to 10 PM on Sundays beginning with its fifth season.
As a result, the show dropped from 7th in Nielsen ratings to 16th on the list.
Despite being one of CBS's most profitable and successful shows during its time, economic troubles and tight budgets forced the cancellation of the series.
Why Without a Trace might not be annoying
At least most of the missing people they find are alive (compared to 'CSI' or 'Cold Case').
Typically, before commercial breaks or at the episode's end, they would show information of a missing person and would offer a hotline in the event some viewer knew information on his or her whereabouts.
Others instances include a PSA about sensitive topics such as suicide or rape.
LaPaglia won a Golden Globe for his role and earned an Emmy nomination.
Poppy Montgomery's character name was based on detective Sam Spade from 'The Maltese Falcon.'
Jerry Bruckheimer executive produced the series.
