There was further speculation that the man being gunned down was another Viet Cong soldier named Na Cong Le.
The image of his death sparked the American anti-war movement.

The final moments of his life were captured for the world to see.
His killing may have violated the Geneva Conventions rules regarding prisoners of war.
Eddie Adams' snapshot won the 1969 Pulitzer Prize for Photography.
The photo, displaying the horrors of war, was called one the most important images of the 20th century.
