Why she might be annoying:

She married, divorced and remarried George Metalious.
The 'Peyton Place' character Tomas Makris had the same name and physical appearance as one of her husband's co-workers.
Makris sued for libel and won a $60,000 settlement after it was discovered that she had forged his name on a release form.
'Peyton Place' was banned in Canada, Rhode Island and Boston.
When screenwriter Michael Hayes asked her if 'Peyton Place' was autobiographical, she threw her drink in his face.
She said she wrote 'Return to Peyton Place' for 'the gentlemen in Hollywood who will do anything for a quick buck.'
She died of liver disease from years of heavy drinking.

Why she might not be annoying:

'Peyton Place' sold 60,000 copies in ten days and was the biggest blockbuster since 'Gone with the Wind.'
'Peyton Place' also became a successful movie and TV series.
She defended her explicitness, saying 'To talk about adults without talking about their sex drives is like talking about a window without the glass.'
'Time' praised her for capturing 'a real sense of the temper, texture and tensions of a small town.'
Her husband was fired from his job as a high school principal because of her notoriety.
