Why Streets of San Francisco might be annoying
The pilot episode was up against two white-hot CBS sitcoms (Mary Tyler Moore and Bob Newhart).
The first season was shot mainly in Los Angeles.
When Hatch took over for Douglas very early in the final season, ratings took a nosedive and never recovered.
NBC aired the ‘reunion’ movie Back to the Streets of San Francisco (1992).
With an eye to revival, CBS Television Distribution went on to own rights to the program.
Though nominated for four Primetime Emmy Awards (Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series), Malden never won.
Why Streets of San Francisco might not be annoying
The theme music.
Viewers didn’t just get to see the opening credits; they got to hear them so they didn’t have to guess how some names sounded.
Though largely unknown at the time, many guest stars went on to become stars in their own rights (including…).
Douglas produced the Oscar-winning One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest during the show’s run.
