Why he might be annoying:

As a teenager, he was a thief addicted to alcohol and marijuana.
During a Golden Gloves semi-final, he bit his opponent on the shoulder (1985).
He turned professional after running up a $250 phone bill his mother could not pay.
He dressed in jodhpurs, bowler hats, riding boots and a monocle.
He regularly paid 250 pounds for haircuts, including the cost of bringing his favorite barber from Manchester to London.
He owned the first Hummer in England.
He was behind the wheel in a car crash in which one of his passengers died (1991).
He filed for bankruptcy, owing 1.3 million pounds in taxes (2005).

Why he might not be annoying:

His fight against Michael Benn to win the WBO middleweight title was considered one of the greatest matches in British boxing history.
After a fight that put opponent Michael Watson in a coma, he concentrated on winning matches on points rather than by knockouts.
He made a citizen's arrest of a jewelry thief (1989).
He was cleared of wrong doing in the fatal car crash.
He was twice named Britain's Best Dressed Man (1991,93).
Concerning his flamboyant style, he said, 'We as entertainers have a duty to the public to keep them amused, and I am a consummate professional to the last.'
