Even though he lived in the United States his entire life, he looks and sounds British!
He declined a Tony nomination for '1776,' since it was for best supporting actor in a musical, not lead actor.
He is typecast as an egotistical authoritarian and an American Revolution hero.
He was uncredited for his voice role on 'Knight Rider' (Hasselhoff gets all the glory again!).

He graduated from Northwestern University.
He's been married Bonnie Bartlett for over 50 years.
He's a versatile actor who has been successful on television, film, and the stage.
He was the Screen Actors Guild president for two years.
He and Bartlett became the first real-life married couple to win Emmys on the same night for their portrayals on 'St. Elsewhere' (1986).
He lent his K.I.T.T. voice for two Simpsons episodes.
