Also appeared in the movies 'The Good Earth' (1937), 'The Phantom of Chinatown' (1941), 'Love Is a Many Splendored Thing' (1955), 'Gremlins' (1984) and 'Alice' (1990)

Why he might be annoying:

He described himself as a 'Cantonese ham.'
He played Lee Chan so long that in the last two movies he was older than the actor playing Charlie Chan.
He was considered but rejected for the role of Obi-Wan Kenobi in 'Star Wars' (1977).

Why he might not be annoying:

He was a successful artist who painted the ceiling of Grauman's Chinese Theatre, murals used in the films 'The Shanghai Gesture' (1941) and 'Macao' (1952), and artwork used for the original press books for 'King Kong' (1933).
He became the first Oriental actor to portray Charlie Chan when he provided the voice for the animated series 'The Amazing Chan and the Chan Clan' (1972).
He received the first Lifetime Achievement Award given by the Association of Asian/Pacific American Artists (1986).
