The Resume

    (August 7, 1867-April 13, 1956)
    Born in Nolde, Denmark
    Birth name was Emil Hansen
    German Expressionist painter and printmaker
    Prints include 'The Prophet' (1912)
Paintings include 'The Last Supper' (1908), 'Blumengarten (ohne Figur)' (1908), 'Blumengarten (Unterwarf)' (1917) and 'Blumen und Wolken' (1933)

Why he might be annoying:

He was rejected by the Munich Academy of Fine Arts (1898).
He was a founding member of the Danish branch of the Nazi party (1920).
He complained that Jewish art dealers introduced materialistic greed into the art world and that Jewish artists lacked 'soul and creative spirit.'
When the Nazis took power in Germany, he praised the 'uprising against Jewish power.'
When he was 81, he married a friend's 28-year-old daughter.

Why he might not be annoying:

He was influenced by tribal art after an expedition to New Guinea
His admiration for the Nazis was not reciprocated, as his paintings were labeled 'degenerate art' and 1,052 of his works were removed from museums (more than any other artist).
He was banned from painting in 1941, but secretly created and hid hundreds of watercolors during WWII.
His Berlin studio and many art works were destroyed in an Allied air raid (1944).
