Why he might be annoying:

    He was very superstitious.
    He always woke up the same time each morning, arrived at the ball park at the same time each game day, and before night games, always entered the batting cage at 5:17 PM and took wind sprints at 7:17.
    He always ate chicken on game days, earning himself the nickname 'Chicken Man.'
    He always had hot dogs, barbecue chips, and iced tea after each game ended.
    He was caught having an extramarital affair, when his mistress sued him, claiming he had promised her a 'salary,' plus money for some expenses.
    He made the last out in New York Yankees Dave Righetti's no-hitter (July 4, 1983).
    He angered Red Sox fans when he signed as a free agent with the rival New York Yankees.
    His name sound like some one trying to get out of a swamp.

Why he might not be annoying:

    He won four straight AL batting titles (1985-88) and five overall.
    New York Yankee fans were quick to accept him as one of their owns even though he had play for the Boston Red Sox
    He rode a police horse to celebrate his New York Yankees winning the 1996 World Series.
    He set the AL rookie record with a .349 batting average his first year (1982).
    While with the New York Yankees, he he excelled at defense as well, winning two Gold Gloves (1994-95).
    He was an original member of the Tampa Bay Devil Rays, and hit a home run in their very first game (March 31, 1998).
    He a member of the 3000 Hit Club, with 3010 hits during his career.
    He was the first player who's 3,000th hit was a home run.
    He once guest starred as himself on 'Cheers' in a memorable episode where he got 'de-pants' (stripped of his trousers) by the show's main characters.
    His wife stayed with him even after the affair was revealed, and they've remained married since 1976.
    He finished his career with a .328 lifetime batting average.
