The Resume

    (July 18, 1848-October 23, 1915)
Born in Downend, England, United Kingdom
Birth name was William Gilbert Grace
    Played first-class cricket (1865-1908)
Scored over 1,000 runs and took 100 wickets in seven seasons (1874-78,1885-86)
    Physician

Why he might be annoying:

He took 12 years to graduate from medical school.
Although he was officially an 'amateur' athlete, many years he earned more money from cricket than from medicine.
He was nicknamed 'the Old Man' while only in his early 30s.
Allegedly, after being bowled out during a charity match, he continued to play, telling the official who had called him out, 'They came to see me bat, not to see you umpire.'
His four autobiographies were all ghostwritten.

Why he might not be annoying:

He donated much of his time as a physician to charities.
He was credited with making cricket an English institution.
One historian called him 'the best-known Englishman of his time.'
His portrait was used as the face of God in 'Monty Python and the Holy Grail.'
