Why Cagney and Lacey might be annoying
Originally actress Meg Foster played the role of Cagney in season one.
However, she was replaced by Sharon Gless because CBS deemed Foster too aggressive and too likely to be perceived as a lesbian by the viewers.
CBS nearly cancelled the show after its second season because of low ratings.
Some people dubbed it as a 'female Starsky and Hutch.'
Cagney suffered from alcoholism.
Why Cagney and Lacey might not be annoying
Creators Barney Rosenzweig and Barbara Corday refused to change Christine Cagney from a tough, witty, working-class woman to a high-class snob as CBS executives demanded.
Die-hard fans resurrected the show from cancellation and the series would end up in the top ten highest rated shows for several years.
Daly and Gless combined to win the Emmy for Best Lead Actress in a Drama six straight years in a row, a winning streak unmatched in any major category by a show.
The show itself was named Best Drama for two consecutive years.
After the series concluded, four television movies featuring the characters were aired between 1994 and 1996.
