    He divorced his first wife after nearly 20 years of marriage despite having one child.
    He married twice.
    He is in the Baseball Hall of Fame even though he was never a player, a manager or a general manager.
    During the time of his ownership, the Red Sox went to the World Series three times and lost in seven games each time (1946, 1967 and 1975).
    Prior to 1959, he was being a racist as he refused to allow African Americans to play for the Red Sox (he declined to sign Jackie Robinson and Willie Mays).
    He adopted his uncle's last name.
    He had a degree in science from Yale.
    He brought in the likes of Hall of Fame players such as Lefty Grove, Jimmie Foxx, Ted Williams, Joe Cronin and Carl Yastrzemski.
    He financed the repairs on Fenway Park with his own money as the stadium was decaying.
    The Red Sox were handed over to his second wife Jean following his death.
    He has the longest tenure in major league history as he served 44 years as a team owner.
    Yawkey Way, a street outside of Fenway Park is named in his honor.
