The Resume

    (circa February 17, 1821-January 17, 1861)
    Born in Grange, Ireland
Birth name was Marie Eliza Rosanna Gilbert
    Performed as a 'Spanish' dancer
Had affairs with Franz Liszt and Alexandre Dumas, pere
Mistress of King Ludwig I of Bavaria, who named her Countess of Landsfeld
    Settled in the US (1851)

Why she might be annoying:

The year and location of her birth are both in dispute.
She was better known for her looks, her temper and her affairs than her dancing.
She responded to one negative review by going after the critic with a whip.
She fled England to avoid bigamy charges.
She was so unpopular with the people of Bavaria that they overthrew King Ludwig to get rid of her.

Why she might not be annoying:

She was said to have eyes of 'excessive beauty.'
King Ludwig allegedly said she could 'perform miracles with the muscles of her private parts.'
Her home in California was declared a Historical Landmark.
One biographer wrote, 'I think she was the first woman to write herself into history, more or less through the force of her own will.'
Shortly before her death she declared, 'I have known all the world has to give - all!'
