The Resume

    (circa 1217-February 8, 1265)
Son of Tolui Khan and Sorghaghtani Beki
    Younger brother of Kublai Khan
Conquered Abbasid Caliphate (1258) and Ayyubid Egypt (1260)
Exterminated a Muslim sect known as the Assassins.
    Founder of Il-Khanate in Persia

Why he might be annoying:

Upon conquering the Abbasid Caliphate, he destroyed Baghdad and killed the last Caliph in the process (1258).
When his forces under the commands of King Hetoum I of Cilician Armenia and Bohemond VI of Antioch conquered the city of Aleppo, they desecrated many mosques (March 1, 1260).
Under him, the Mongols suffered their first major military defeat at Ain Jalut by the Mamluks (September 3, 1260).
He and his successors were unable to forge alliances with European nations successfully.
His funeral was the only one of his dynasty to involve human sacrifice.

Why he might not be annoying:

His contact with the Europeans resulted in an influx of his and his descendants’ names into Italy.
He and his descendants opened Iran to European and Chinese influence, which helped shape the local architecture into a great marvel.
Modern-day Iran was eventually formed from the Il-Khanate through the Safavid Empire.
